Should I be using mouthwash?

Mouthwash can be incorporated into your oral hygiene routine. It is not a substitute for excellent tooth brushing but can be used in addition to maintain bacterial load. Your hygienist will suggest the best mouthwash for you at appointments if you want to incorporate this into your oral hygiene routine.

Are there particular toothpastes that will help my condition?

Eliminating gum inflammation is about mechanical cleaning. At your hygiene visit the hygienist will discuss toothpastes appropriate to your needs, providing appropriate toothpaste samples to try at home.

Are there environmentally friendly biodegradable options to cleaning aids?

Yes. These are becoming more readily available. From bamboo toothbrushes and interdental brushes to Neem tree floss.

Apart from floss, is there anything else that I can use to clean between my teeth?

Yes you can use tepe brushes, dental rubbers or water flossers. There is a wide variety of interdental aids. Your hygienist will demonstrate and advise the best options for you at your appointments. This may vary over time as the spaces between teeth gradually change.

Is it important to clean between your teeth?

Excellent toothbrushing with an electric toothbrush will address 60% of the plaque biofilm. The other 40% requires for you to use interdental aids such as floss, tepe brushes or interdental rubbers. Your hygienist will show you how to derive maximum benefit from this.

Does gum disease affect general health?

Gum disease is an inflammatory disease which affects the immune system.. Therefore a healthy mouth leads to a healthy overall body/immune system.

Can it be used in children?

Yes. This treatment is appropriate for children and adults after a medical history is checked.

Can this be used to treat gum disease?

Yes. This is the gold standard hygiene treatment for early and advanced gum disease.

Do you polish after with paste?

No. The powder is the polish. It helps remove staining and is much less abrasive than a conventional polish.

What are the benefits of the powder?

The components in the powder polish the teeth and change the DNA/RNA of bacteria. This means pathological and damaging bacteria cannot reproduce so your mouth is as clean as possible.
