The palate on an upper denture increases the surface area of your denture which also helps with the suction and retention of the denture. Removing it might make the denture loose. If you have implants to hold your denture in place then you no longer need a palate.
You have saliva glands on the roof of your mouth which help with tasting food. If you have a palate on your denture then this will block them.
You can use denture fixative creams as a temporary measure but these will not resolve the actual issue which is that the denture does not fit. Ill-fitting dentures can accelerate the wear on your jaws resulting in more problems further down the road.
There are many techniques such as the BPS or the suction denture technique which can usually resolve this. In some cases you may find that you can improve the fit but cannot make it perfect. This is very much dependent on how much jaw bone you have left and whether the skin is thick enough to cushion the denture.
Your denture may not support the jaw in the right places making your face appear sunk in and you look older.
It’s still advisable to visit your dentist at least once a year to ensure that the dentures fit properly and that there are no lesions in your mouth that would later become sinister.
Titanium implants have been around for a long time and many millions are placed every year. This is not to say that you cannot have an allergy or reaction to them. Titanium compounds are ubiquitous in many products such as cosmetics, toothpaste, milk, sunscreen, food preservatives. Constant contact to these can increase the risk of allergic-type reactions. Another thing to consider is the purity of the titanium implant - many of the cheaper implants are composed of titanium, aluminium and vanadium. Sometimes the issues is not the implant but all the different metal alloys that are used to attach the teeth onto the implants ie screws, crowns or bridges. You can be tested for titanium and other heavy metal issues using a Melisa test. If you want to consider a more biocompatible material then why not look at zirconia implants?
No not all implants are the same quality just like not all cars are the same quality. Remember that this is something that will be inserted into your jaw and so it makes sense to aim for the best possible.
When you commit to this treatment you want the result to be predictable and last for a long time. To achieve this you want the best materials possible as well as experienced dentists who can offer a number of different implant solutions, tailored to your needs. Not all implants and graft materials are the same quality.
It is recommended that you visit the hygienist every 3months. Professional care and advice will allow a proactive approach to any potential issues to be resolved before they become big issues.
