Implant Consultation & Whole-Mouth Overview

Replacing missing teeth starts with understanding why they were lost.

A 30-minute appointment to meet your implant dentist, ask your questions and find out whether implant treatment is likely to suit you, titanium or ceramic, and how the rest of your mouth may affect the result.

£119, credited against your implant placement when you book your planning appointment within two weeks.

Who it’s for

  • You have a missing, broken or failing tooth and want to know if an implant is right for you
  • You’re interested in metal-free ceramic implants
  • You’ve had an implant elsewhere that has failed or is causing problems
  • You wear a denture and want to explore fixed teeth
  • You want a second opinion on a treatment plan you’ve already been given

Why we look at the whole mouth

An implant doesn’t work in isolation. The teeth around it, your bite and the health of your gums all affect how long it will last.

So as well as the teeth that need replacing, we take an engineering view of your mouth. Why was the tooth lost in the first place? What forces will the implant face? What else might become a problem? Understanding this helps you avoid the same thing happening again.

What we look at

  1. The teeth to be replaced and the bone and gum around them
  2. Neighbouring teeth, including old fillings, crowns and root-filled teeth that may affect the plan
  3. Your bite and how biting forces will be shared across your teeth
  4. Signs of grinding or clenching, which affect the choice between titanium and ceramic
  5. Gum health around the areas being treated
  6. Your goals and concerns, including any wish to avoid metal

Detailed 3D scans and X-Guide digital planning take place at a separate planning appointment if you decide to go ahead. This includes a CT scan with an X-Clip, an intraoral scan and clinical photographs. You can also book planning as an add-on to your consultation, and Dr Puri will advise whether scans are appropriate for you.

Watch the full journey, from CT and intraoral scans to digital planning and X-Guide navigated placement.

What it isn’t

This is a focused implant consultation, not a replacement for a check-up with your own dentist. It won’t go into detail on things like small cavities or cracks unless they’re obvious.

If you don’t have a regular dentist, our experienced general dentists offer a full Dental Risk Assessment Exam. Ask reception and we can arrange both.

What happens at your appointment

  1. Before you arrive. We’ll ask about your dental and medical history, and any concerns, so your time with us is spent on what matters.
  2. Your consultation. We talk about what’s happened so far and what you’d like to achieve, then look at your mouth. Nothing is rushed.
  3. Your options, explained honestly. Dr Puri will explain whether titanium or ceramic suits you best, and when he’d advise against an option. Where a tooth needs removing, we’ll discuss whether it can be replaced in the same appointment.
  4. Next steps. If you’d like to go ahead, the next step is a planning appointment with 3D scans and X-Guide digital planning, which shows exactly what’s possible in your case. You can request a copy of your consultation transcript afterwards. There’s no pressure to decide on the day.

Travelling to see us

Many patients travel from across Scotland and the north of England. The practice is about seven minutes from a train station, and we plan appointments to keep your trips to a minimum. If you’re coming from a distance, you can start with a free video consultation on Microsoft Teams with Aimee, our implant coordinator and nurse, to ask your questions before deciding to make the journey.

Your questions

Is this the same as a dental check-up?

No. It’s focused on the teeth to be replaced and how the rest of your mouth affects them. For a full examination, book our Dental Risk Assessment Exam.

Will I need a scan at this appointment?

Not usually. This consultation is about suitability and your options. 3D scans and detailed planning happen at a separate planning appointment, or as an add-on if Dr Puri thinks it’s appropriate.

What does the planning appointment cost?

The total for scans and digital planning is £518. This includes a CT scan with an X-Clip, an intraoral scan and clinical photographs, plus the £270 planning fee. The £270 planning fee is credited against your implant fee when your implant is placed.

Can I have a video consultation first?

Yes. If you live far away, Aimee, our implant coordinator and nurse, can meet you on Microsoft Teams so you can ask questions before travelling. Your in-person consultation at the practice is then with Dr Puri. The video consultation is complimentary.

Do you offer metal-free implants?

Yes. We’ve placed ceramic (zirconia) implants since 2010. Our main system is Swiss Dental Solutions, and we also use Straumann’s ceramic implant where it suits the case. Read more on our zirconia implants page, or read why patients travel from across Scotland for a metal-free implant.

Is the £119 refunded?

No, the fee is non-refundable. But if you book your X-Guide planning appointment within two weeks of your consultation, the full £119 is credited against your implant placement.

Can I bring someone with me?

Of course. Many patients find it helpful to have a partner or friend hear the options too.
