Natural-Looking Fillings That Do More Than Just Fill
White Composite Fillings in Edinburgh
Do you have a cavity to fix or an old metal filling you’d rather not see anymore?
At Integrated Dentalcare, our composite fillings don’t just repair decay. They restore your tooth’s appearance, strength, and integrity with a seamless, metal-free finish that blends in naturally.
Why Settle for Silver? There’s a Better Way to Restore Your Smile
Traditional metal fillings may be effective, but they stand out visually and often require more tooth structure to be removed during placement.
Composite fillings offer a better, more conservative alternative:
- Tooth-coloured and discreet
- Bonds directly to your tooth structure
- Preserves more of your natural tooth
- Free from metal or mercury
They’re ideal for anyone who wants repair work done right, without compromising how their smile looks.

What Are Composite Fillings?
Composite fillings (also known as “white fillings”) are made from a durable, tooth-coloured resin that’s applied in layers, shaped carefully, and hardened using a special curing light.
Because they bond directly to your tooth, they provide lasting strength while maintaining a completely natural appearance.
They’re used to:
- Repair cavities and decay
- Restore chipped, cracked or worn teeth
- Replace older metal amalgam fillings
- Reshape teeth for cosmetic improvements
Who Are They For?
Composite fillings are a great fit if:
- You’ve been diagnosed with tooth decay
- You’re replacing one or more old amalgam fillings
- You’ve chipped or worn down a tooth
- You want a strong but subtle repair
- You value minimally invasive, metal-free treatment

What’s the Process Like?
Most fillings are completed in two appointments—one for the examination and another for the treatment.

Step 1: Examination and Colour Matching
We assess the tooth and choose a resin shade that perfectly matches your surrounding enamel.

Step 2: Cleaning and Preparation
The affected area is cleaned, and any decay is gently removed. Local anaesthesia is used to ensure comfort throughout.

Step 3: Layering the Composite
We apply the filling material in thin layers, shaping each one with precision before hardening it with a light.

Step 4: Finishing and Polishing
Once complete, we refine the shape and polish the surface for a smooth, natural feel that looks just like the rest of your tooth.

What Patients Say
I have been dentistry-phobic for a over a decade. But on Christmas Eve a little piece of one of my amalgam-filled teeth broke off and I knew that I needed to just face my fears and get all my teeth looked at. I searched for and found Neeraj Puri, certified for us dentistry-phobics online and made an appointment on the web. I was very nervous and crying even before I said ‘hello’ to him, but he was wonderful at putting me at ease and talking through everything, in a comfortable room away from all the dentristy equipment. He answered all my questions and we talked through all my fears. Over the course of a few appointments I have a new ceramic, tooth-coloured onlay in place of my amalgam filling and a composite filling in a second cavity. Although I have been very nervous and tearful in most of these sessions we have worked through it together and I know my teeth are in safe hands. I trust Neeraj in my mouth. That is not something I thought I would ever be able to say about dentistry and I’m so pleased to recommend them to anyone in need of support and care.

With concerns that mercury/amalgam fillings were causing some health issues, I was delighted to come across Integrated Dentalcare. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and Neeraj sat me down for a relaxed, informal chat to go over having my fillings removed – you can tell this is somewhere that genuinely cares about their patients. I felt I was in very safe hands from the outset, and relaxed and confident during the procedure. With the use of the latest in technology, the patient can see what is going on. They removed all the fillings and meticulously restored my teeth. I am happy to say my gums and mouth now feel fantastic, and have received many compliments on my now white teeth. The hygienist has also been great, and patiently educates you on taking preventative care on your own. I would highly recommend this practice – 5/5

I am incredibly pleased with the reconstruction of a back tooth the has been causing me problems for many years, with food getting painfiully stuck and unable to clean between it and the next tooth properly. Neeraj Puri did a fantastic job of completely replacing the filling and reshaping the tooth. It’s back to being a normal tooth again – I can eat all foods with it, no food gets stuck any more, and I can use TePe brushes in the space again after more than 10 years of it being a problem area! Thanks so much, I didn’t expect the outcome to be this good 😊

For many years I have known about the negative health implications of having mercury in my dental fillings and have been looking for a mercury free dental practice. I was very nervous about the procedure of removing the fillings but I need not have worried. Neeraj and his lovely team put me at my ease and my nervousness turned to confidence with each appointment. I never felt rushed and was able to ask as many questions as I liked. The amount of care and skill has been outstanding. I now have beautiful white fillings which match my teeth perfectly and I now feel confident to be able to smile again. Thank you to everyone. Sue

I never thought I would choose private dental care. However when I started to get my amalgam fillings removed my NHS dentist did not have experience of using an effective dam to prevent fumes and mercury being ingested. Also he was not experienced in using composite for fillings and the short time allowed meant it was a rush and not a good job. The composites leaked which would lead to decay beneath the filling.I discovered that a biological dentist was expert in this work and that there was one in Edinburgh. Neeraj also has a less intrusive X-ray machine and all the latest and best technology. I spoke to him and his attitudes to health were in sync with mine. He is a careful perfectionist– good qualities in a dentist -and explains the options clearly and allows client to decide on their preferred treatment. More time and attention to detail means a much better final product. I have spent a long time in the dentist’s chair as I had many mercury fillings but it has been comfortable, painless and I am very satisfied with my lovely new white teeth. I have a digestive illness but without mercury and with perfect teeth that improve my chewing I am a fit and healthy 70 year old who is very glad I found Neeraj and Integrated Dental Care. All the staff are lovely and have made me feel very much at home there.

FAQs – What You Might Be Wondering
Do composite fillings last as long as metal ones?
Yes. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, they can last 5–10 years or more.
Will it look fake or noticeable?
Not at all. We match the colour and texture so closely, it’s virtually invisible.
Does it hurt?
Thanks to the use of local anaesthetic, most patients report little to no discomfort during the procedure.
Can I replace my old silver fillings with composite?
Absolutely. We do this often, and you’ll love the aesthetic improvement.
Is the material safe?
Yes. Composite resin is metal-free, BPE- free, mercury-free, and biocompatible.
