Laser Dentist

Lasers  are the Holy Grail of futuristic dentistry: minimal discomfort; faster healing; more refined treatment; no vibration. At integrated Dentalcare we have four lasers. A state of the art, Waterlase laser, a soft tissue laser, a low level laser therapy (LLLT) laser and diagnostic laser.

WATERLASE LASER

The Waterlase is an amazing tool that  allows us to treat decay or cavities without having to use local anaesthetic injections.* We are able to treat gum disease more thoroughly, than was ever possible before, as we are able to create a sterile enviornment for the tissue to knit back together around the tooth. In many cases this allows the regeneration of bone taking the tooth back to before there was gum disease. We are able to carry out surgery in a more controlled and less damaging fashion.

SOFT TISSUE LASER

LLLT LASER

 This laser is used to accelerate and promote healing. This is particularly useful after surgery. As part of our desire to minimise the amount of medications that we prescribe (pain-killers, anti-inflammatories), we are tapping into these amazing, natural laser light healing modalities to encourage the body to use its own healing potential to heal faster - with a little helping hand from the lasers.

DIAGNODENT LASER

Benefits of Laser Dentistry:

  • The waterlase uses pure, sterile water
  • It may not be necessary to use sutures with some soft tissue procedures
  • The surrounding tissue is not damaged.
  • Wounds heal faster
  • The high energy beam sterilises the area being worked on
  • Many times an injection for anaesthesia is not needed
  • Bleeding is minimal because the laser aids in the clotting of exposed blood vessels

Hard Tissue (Gum) Laser Dentistry;

Soft Tissue Folds: Dental lasers can be used for painless and no stitches removal of soft tissue folds (dentures or partly erupted wisdom teeth)

Muscle Attachment (Frenula): the frenula under the lip or under the tongue (tongue tied) can be removed, often without stitches

Gummy Smile: Dental lasers can reshape gum tissue to improve the appearance of a gummy smile

Crown lengthening: Dental lasers can reshape gum tissue (soft tissue laser) and hone (hard tissue laser) to extend the lengthy of a crown for better grip and strength as well as improve the appearance

Soft tissue (Tooth) Laser Dentistry;

Fillings and Tooth Preparations: Hard tissue lasers cannot be used on amalgam fillings and crowns.  However, hard tissue lasers may eliminate the need for local anaesthetic (injections) or the dental turbine drill.  The laser will also kill the bacteria in the hard dental tissue that originally caused the decay.  This leads to better long term tooth restorations.

Tooth Sensitivity: Dental lasers may be used to seal the small microscopic pores in the dentine of the tooth are responsible for carrying the hold/cold sensitivity to the nerve inside the tooth.

Lasers represent an innovative and more precise technology for specific and soft tissue applications.  You may find that you feel more comfortable and less anxious during your treatments.

* 80% of patient's do not require anaesthetic for fillings with the Waterlase
